Good looking techie watch August 19, 2010 David N. Dallas (Dallas, TX United States) This is a good looking everyday watch with some cool features that work well. The inner geek in you will take pride in knowing the correct time to the second. The nightly atomic resync almost always works on this watch; the metal band might help in the reception (I don't get as good a result with the Casio WVM120J-1 Solar Atomic watch). This may not be an eye-popping fashionista watch, but for someone with more conservative tastes who appreciates the technology that can be packed into today's watches, this is a good choice.
Four not Five stars because the band took about 1 hour to adjust using a basic link removal tool. Even after punching out the pins from the links, I still had to use pliers to pull them out. Keep track of the small cylindrical sleeve that comes out when you pull out the link's pin and be sure to reinstall it when you put the links back on. The band itself is lightweight, and I'm noticing some slight scratching, so it may not be all that durable. The brushed silver of the band doesn't quite match the gray plastic of the case, but it's not all that noticeable.
Ana-Digi Never again! August 19, 2010 J. Eldridge It is a good watch with a good cool factor but you can't hear the alarms and cannot completely see the digital read-out between 25 and 35 after. I have a similar casio watch but only digital, which I will use much more often. And it only cost $28!
Great Watch at a Great Price August 17, 2010 C. Judd (Salt Lake City, UT USA) I've received the Casio WVA470DJ-ACF watch about a week ago and am very pleased with the purchase. First, the watch is a little larger than I thought it would be--even though the size is clearly shown on the Amazon site, somehow the watch face is larger than I expected (I think that they have not standardized the way they make the photographs with the cm rulers for watches--sometimes they measure just the face, other times the case). I like the look of a larger face/case so this is a welcome surprise.
Solar charging to HI took only a couple of hours in a window sill on a sunny day and has remained at HI since without consciously putting in direct light since. I was concerned that the waveceptor feature might not work because my home is situated at 6,000 ft elevation with a range of mountains between me and the transmitter in Colorado. In fact, the signal was solid and it has synced successfully each of the last 7 nights.
My favorite watch ever July 20, 2010 handsomeman 57 (Cary, NC United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have owned 3-4 back plastic "Illuminator' watches from Casio and have loved them. They are analog with a very nice digital feature and 'illuminate' at the touch. . the biggest problem is the bands don't last (3-4 years) and batteries need to be updated but the watches were amazing. However- I was ready for a Big Boy watch, and not a fragile dressy watch which are only good for weddings.
I have now had this Wave Ceptor for several weeks and I love this watch. it looks great, it is comfortable (band does not pull arm hairs like many watch bands do) and it works flawlessly (like all Casio watches).
It was so cool when i removed it from the package that it automatically set itself to the atomic clock- I assume once the sunlight hit it and it powered it up. It has been on HI power since I started using it. all the normal Casio digital features, plus some extra ones like choosing your time zone...
I could not get the band adjusted my self nor could the moron who worked at Kohl's, who removed some pins (and lost one or two) and then put it all in a little plastic bag for me . Thanks. The jeweler at my local Sears sized it in 5 minutes for $8.
The watch looks nicer than I expected it to, the plastic parts are hardly noticeable and I suspect serve some purpose in addition to making what's a fairly large watch very light. the little instruction book that comes with it is useless. The down loadable PDF (all English) is much better. The crystal seems fairly hard unlike previous Casio watches which seemed a little gummy and scratched up really easy. it illuminates but only the little digital window, good enough for government work, but not as nice as the Illuminator, where the whole face glows ..
Overall an excellent watch for a very low price, and it does not look like a cheap Japanese watch- even though that's what it is ...!
A Good Watch for the Price June 22, 2010 W. Davis (Templeton, CA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
When I began shopping for a replacement for a Casio Waveceptor digital watch I've had for years, I decided I wanted an analog watch face, but I still wanted the digital features, including world time. As I get older, my eyesight isn't what it used to be and an analog watch seems to be what I need to read my watch without having to take out my reading glasses. This watch had all of the features I was looking for, and then some. The solar recharging is great and not something I was specifically looking for. Right after I received my watch, I put it in the sun for a couple of hours. Since then, the battery charge level has remained at HI with normal day-to-day use. Also, the face of this watch is dark gray, not blue as it is listed in the description on the Amazon.com listing.
My old Waveceptor watch was very touchy about where I could place it in my house to receive the time signal. This watch seems to receive better. It receives the update every morning from my nightstand.
I have read other reviews with complaints about the watch band and how difficult it is to re-size it. It is not easy to adjust. But having owned a Casio watch previously with the same type of band, I had a little experience with removing links. The key when removing links is to locate the arrows on the inside of the watch band. These indicate which direction the pins must be pushed through to remove the links. When removing the pin, you must be extremely careful to look for a tiny metal sleeve that will likely fall out along with the removed pin. That sleeve is what holds the pin in place in the link. Without it, the pin will slip out and your band will come apart. The sleeve fits inside the channel of the short part of the link that fits between the upper and lower portion of the adjacent link. If you can remember to re-insert that sleeve before replacing the long pin, the watch band will stay together.
My only negative comment about this watch is probably an anomaly of the watch I received. I've not read any comments about this watch not being accurate. The digital timekeeping is very accurate. However, the analog timekeeping on my watch does not stay synchronized with the digital time. During the 2 weeks I've had this watch, I've noticed that the second hand is up to 20 seconds slow, even after the watch has synchronized with the time signal. I've found the minute hand to be as much as 3 minutes off. It is relatively easy to manually correct this. By choosing the hand setting function, I manually move the second hand to the 12:00 position. If the minute hand is off, I manually move it to match what the digital display says is the current minute. Then the analog and digital times match, but it never stays that way. I contacted Casio via the Web and they recommended that I should send my watch in so that it can be evaluated for warranty service. I'm not sure it's worth the trouble of packaging up the watch, paying the shipping and then waiting to see if they decide whether the problem is a manufacturer's defect. I've dealt with other companies regarding warranty returns. I'm not impressed with a company that does not allow you to ship back at no cost to you. So, as long as this watch continues to keep time the way it is now, I will consider it acceptable since I only paid a little over $100 for the watch. I would appreciate hearing from anyone else who has a similar timekeeping problem with their watch.
