Amazon.com Product Description The simply designed Casio G-Shock Classic digital watch for men offers shock resistance that's great for your most vigorous sporting activities. The durable rectangular black watch case measures 45mm wide (1.77 inches), and it's matched to a comfortable black resin sports strap. It includes a stopwatch function that can measure events down to 1/100 of a second for the first 60 minutes (and down to 1 second from 60 minutes to 24 hours), and it offers elapsed and split time modes, and 1st-2nd place times. It also has a countdown timer with a 24-hour range. Other timekeeping features include a multi-function alarm, hourly time signal (which can be turned off), and 12/24-hour formats. This timepiece also features an Auto Calendar (pre-programmed until the year 2039), ±15-second accuracy per month, Afterglow backlighting, and water resistance to 200 meters (660 feet)--which will stand up to the rigors of recreational scuba diving.

Nice simple watch March 8, 2010 S. Khan (New York/California) If you want a simple digital watch, this is perfect. It also looks cool since it has a retro feel to it. I have a few g-shocks and this one is nice because it is not overwhelming
Great watch, annoying backlight March 4, 2010 Connor McKay Incredibly durable, very easy to use, and all the features you need. My only complaint with this watch is in regards to the backlight, and when it refuses to work. When setting the alarm, the backlight will not come on, even though that button performs no other function in this mode. This means that you cannot set the alarm in the dark, which is very annoying if you are camping or in a shared room and don't want to turn on the lights just to set your alarm. The backlight will also not work when setting the event timer, but instead toggles the "automatic" mode which causes the timer to restart automatically when it reaches zero.
Overall, its a great watch, but this one design flaw means I probably wouldn't purchase another one.
Casio states the battery is a test battery; may not last long! February 24, 2010 Stephen of Ocala (Ocala, FL) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Is this something new about cheap, short-life batteries being supplied with Casio watches?
I just ordered this watch from Amazon last Wednesday and received it today, 2-23-2010. I set the time and date and looked through the User's Guide. On page E-28 under "Battery Replacement" and "Initial Battery" it states this about the initial battery:
"The battery that comes loaded in your watch when you purchase it is used for function and performance testing at the factory.
This type of test battery may go dead quicker than the normal rated battery life as noted in the User's Guide. Note that you will be charged for replacement of this battery, even if replacement is required within the watch's warranty period."
How long has this been going on? Is this a new statement in newer User's Guides, or has this statement been in the manual for years? Please comment on this. Is the same statement in other Casio watch User's Guides? It is ridiculous of Casio to provide anything other than normal, full-life batteries to their customers. None of their ads say anything about selling watches with short-life batteries. Casio may save a few pennies but its customers lose many dollars and have the considerable bother of an earlier first battery change. This is my 4th Casio watch, and I don't recall seeing this statement before. I'll try to find the User's Guide for my other Casio. On Feb. 26 I am adding that my User's Guide version on the last page is MA0907-C, printed in China.
By Far the Greatest Watch I've Ever Owned February 23, 2010 R. F. Ayres (Southfield, MI, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This watch is outstanding!
I've had watches in the past, but none have been like this!
I used to be fearful of banging watches against walls or dropping them. But now, I have a G-Shock, so I don't have to care.
For Jesus' sake! Marines wear these! Navy SEALs too! They are the best of the best and they wear 'em. Shouldn't you?
This Watch
- Low Costing
- Indestructible (I've banged this against walls, concrete, brick, etc. keeps ticking!)
- Fast shipping
- Great display
- Really simple (Clock, Alarm, Stop-watch, Timer)
Only drawback- the 'ADJUST' button for some reason isn't raised out like all the other buttons. Meaning you have to really put your fingernail in there if you want to get it. But 95% of the time, it isn't a problem whatsoever.
If you constantly are breaking watches, this watch is for you! These can last up to 20 years!
20 Years for under $40

Marine infantrymen and Navy SEALs use it for a reason February 18, 2010 M 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the watch worn by the toughest men on the planet, and there are three simple reasons for it. 1. No moving parts means better shock resistance and waterproofing than any moving-parts (ie analogue, and particularly mechanical or automatic) watch can deliver. 2. Casio has perfected ruggedness in watches over the last 30 years - they are better than anyone at this game by now. 3. Simplicity of design and use means the timepiece is functional under the most stressful situations. The format of this excellent watch harkens back - way back - to the Casio Mariner, a watch that accompanied me to five oceans and six continents over more than two decades, and only gave up after I had beaten it mercilessly in surf, snow, desert sands and the occasional urban adventure. At under $40 shipped, this is the best value in a timepiece I'll ever get, and the same goes for you. The folks who retail radioactive luminescence on analogue dials want you to think that Navy SEALs use their watches, and maybe that's true - when they're on leave and trying to pick up recently released female felons at sleazy roadhouses. On the job they do what Marine infantrymen do - they strap on a G-shock and twist its face downward to minimise glare and movement when checking the time.
